2021 Mercedes-Benz EQC

An increasing number of car manufactures deliver electrified transport, and Mercedes-Benz joins the 2021 EQC. The EQC is a lightweight SUV with five seats and shares a significant part of its body frame with the gas-powered GLC-class. Its fully electric powertrain provides quiet performance, along with the crisp acceleration that is part of the kit of many luxurious EVs.

Its cabin looks deluxe, with high-gloss plastics, gorgeous textiles, and sleek architecture. Although final EPA numbers have not been released, early estimates put the driving range at around 200 miles, shorter than its Tesla-badged rival. Overall, the combination of Mercedes-Benz’s lavishness and eco-friendly electrification of the EQC makes it an appealing option for green-minded luxury-SUV buyers.

What’s special around 2021?

The Mercedes-Benz EQC is all exclusive to the 2021 model year.

The EQC isn’t the fastest option in its class, but it’s a fantastic choice if you’re looking for an electric-powered SUV that provides a high degree of comfort and luxury.

Let’s see what the model provides:

Engine and Performance

Strong, compelling, and quiet. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4MATIC® SUV is fitted with an 80 kWh lithium-ion battery and two 402 HP, 561 lb.-ft asynchronous motors. Torque and 0-60 MPH acceleration in 4.8 seconds. The lightweight electric drivetrain on each axle makes the iconic 4MATIC® all-wheel-drive system a unique twist for responsive handling and quick transitions.

This all-new luxury SUV integrates adaptive range control, ECO assist system, and DYNAMIC SELECT with EV-optimized features that lend a European model-estimated range of 279 miles. Add up to 80 percent fast-charging capability within only 40 minutes, and you’ve got a pleasant afternoon.

About Battery Life, Charging, and Travelling Range

The EPA has not released its estimation of the EQC’s driving range, but we expect this number to land 200 miles or less. That places it way behind the Tesla Model X, which can fly more than 300 miles on a full charge. Mercedes says that when charging at home, the EQC would refill from 10% to 100% in 10 hours. With standard DC fast-charger in use, going from a 10-percent charge to an 80-percent charge takes 40 minutes.

Interior

The interior of the EQC is an exciting expression of the future-oriented tech company Mercedes-Benz. It offers unique electro aesthetics, the concept of which is influenced by consumer electronics. The interaction between a new, EQC-specific color scheme and a traditional high-value Mercedes-Benz style featuring leather and wood is terrific.

The EQC cabin promises more pure comfort than competitors like the Tesla Model X and the Jaguar I-Pace. The structure is solid, the design is impeccable, and the nature of the materials used is beyond reproach. Mercedes has not announced the final payload capacity for this SUV. However, as a comparison point, the GLC-class on which this model is based offers approximately 19 cubic feet of cargo room behind its rear seats.

Exterior

Due to its robust dimensions, the EQC is known as a crossover SUV. The stretched roofline and window style with a low waistline and a coupe-like roof opening on the rear visually place it between the SUV and the SUV coupe.

Infotainment & Connectivity

As you would imagine, the EQC comes with an up-to-date range of technical specifications. The SiriusXM satellite radio and Burmester sound systems are standard. The cabin is integrated with two 10.25-inch displays, one for the instrument panel and one for the infotainment system. Combined, they’re helping give the cabin a modern look.

The infotainment system is controlled by a touchpad that substitutes the older hardware models’ central control button. We’re not fans of the touchpad because of how challenging it is to insert the orders specifically. Luckily, the EQC provides redundant touchscreen capabilities.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Mercedes-Benz Smart Drive combines advances in safety and comfort. Through these intelligent technologies, Mercedes-Benz is not only setting benchmarks for automobile innovation. Still, it is also taking a significant step forward on the path to accident-free and automated driving.

Mercedes-Benz has fitted this SUV with driver assistance equipment that can help deter incidents from happening. Main security capabilities include:

  1. Available for blind-spot tracking
  2. Accessible assistance for lane repair
  3. Adaptive cruise control enabled
